Times they are a changing…
“The times they are a changing”. Isn’t it like stating the obvious? Time will change, situations will change, the world will change. For better or for worse. And as I sit in front of the computer typing away to glory, somewhere something is changing which will affect me in time. But I cannot do anything about it. Or so I think.
But honestly, most of the things that happen to us or we bring unto ourselves, in the hindsight, look like things we really couldn’t have avoided anyway. However much we thought that we were exercising choice, we were actually destined to do exactly that. The story of the Butterfly effect is actually only a story, there were no crossroads ever.
It was always a straight path, predefined and ordained to unfold exactly the way it has turned out, there never was an element of choice. If there was something, there was an illusion of a choice along with a few very strong reasons supporting the path I chose and some weak ones, which I eliminated. As the old Hindi saying goes, “Waqt se pehle aur aukaat se zyada kisi ko kuch nahi milta.”
The fact that I am standing and staring at a straight dark path forward with no choices whatsoever, is perhaps a good thing. It only reduces an opportunity for me to blame myself for having made yet another wrong decision. Because, you see, in the end, things will turn out exactly the way they are supposed to turn out and you will reach Rome or Dilli (as the case may be) with or without the burden of wrong choices.
